bash command for unzipping tar.gz files
 
  1. # Basic syntax:
  2. tar -zxvf file.tar.gz
  3. # Where:
  4. #    - x tells tar to extract the files
  5. #    - v tells the command to list all of the files in the archive
  6. #    - z tells the tar command to uncompress the file (gzip)
  7. #    - f tells tar that you are going to give it a file name to work with
unrachive .tar.gz
 
  1. tar -xvzf community_images.tar.gz
  2. Also, to extract in a specific directory
  3. for eg. to extract the archive into a custom my_images directory .
  4. tar -xvzf community_images.tar.gz -C my_images
extract tar gz
 
  1. tar xvzf file.tar.gz
