TestRail is a test management tool used for testing our project, creating test cases, and test plans, and providing various features. We will easily interact with the team members, and QA team and manage and track our projects. This article focuses on providing a step-by-step guide to creating a new project in TestRail.

  2. Test Runs: It consist of executing a specific set of test cases against a particular version of the software.

Steps to Create New Projects

Here are the step by step guide to creating TestRail project:

Step 1: After logging in to the TestRail account, we see the dashboard that is the first page of the TestRail. Click the Add Project button to create the project.

Step 2: After clicking Add Project button, we have to fill the details of the project such as:

  • Name: Project1 is the Name of our project. We can create any name for the project accordingly.
  • Announcement: In the Announcement section, we have to put any announcement related to our project such as release date, start date.

Step 3: After Clicking the Add Project button we successfully added the project in TestRail. We see the message in the dashboard that we have successfully created the project and we see the chart of our active projects.

Step 4: In the dashboard, we see that we see various features available in our project such as todos, milestones, test runs, test cases, and reports.

Step 5: When we click To-dos option we see that how much active test, pending and upcoming tests.

Step 6: After that, we have to create milestones.

Step 7: After Clicking the Add milestone button we have to fill in the details related to milestones such as

  • Name: test1.0 is the Name of our milestone. We can create any of the milestone names according to our interests.
  • References: In references, we have project-related links or any bug-tracking tool that we used in our project.
  • Parent: If there is sub milestone in that case we have added in the parent milestone.
  • Description: In the Description, we have to add the details of our milestone.
  • Start date: In the start date, we have to add the date when the milestone starts.
  • End Date: In the End date, we have to add the date when our milestone ends.

Step 8: After Clicking the Add Milestone button, we see the message display in the dashboard that the milestone should be successfully added.

Step 9: Now, we have to add a test run to our project. In the dashboard, when we click our project we see the option test runs.

Step 10: After Clicking Add test run button we have to add details.

  • Name: When we click the Add Test run button the name is automatically created but if we want to use another name we can simply use it accordingly.
  • References: In references, we have project-related links or any bug-tracking tool that we used in our project.
  • Milestone: We have to select the milestones that we created in our project.
  • Assign to: In the Assign section, we have to select the users from which the user gets the test run.

Step 11: After Clicking the Add Test Run button, we have to see how many test runs passed, blocked, retested, and failed.

Step 12: Now we have to add test cases for our project. We have to click the Add test case button.

Step 13: After Clicking the Add Test Case Button, we have to add the test cases of our project including the title of the test case, steps, and expected results, and click the Add test case button to successfully add the test case.

Step 14: Now, we have to create a report on our project. We have to click a Reports option where we have to select the given templates according to our needs such as cases, defects, summary, etc. We select the template Summary and within the summary, we have to select a milestone that gives the overview of our milestone in our project. We write the email of the person with whom we have to share the report and click the Add Report Button.
