India is home to a diverse range of distinguished engineering institutions, including the esteemed IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other CFTIs. Alongside these, private deemed-to-be-universities & state private universities have emerged as vital contributors to talent development and innovation in the field. These institutions have state-of-the-art infrastructure, experienced faculty, extensive industry connections, and cutting-edge research facilities. Please note: This article is about private universities (deemed-to-be-universities and state private universities) only. It doesn’t include colleges affiliated with state collegative universities. Ex: RVCE Bengaluru, PSG Tech Coimbatore, etc. Much like top IITs and NITs, private universities have established themselves as centers of excellence and innovation in engineering education. Their rigorous admission processes based on their entrance exams with the absence of socio-economic reservations, ensure that only the most meritorious students gain admission, fostering an environment of intellectual curiosity and academic rigor. These Institutes become the immediate next choice of BTech and MTech aspiring students who don’t get into the desired branch in desired IITs and top NITs. These are much better than state university-affiliated colleges. Generally, most of their BTech entrance examinations have a similar syllabus, weightage, and preparation as that of JEE Main. University system in India In India, as per the UGC Act, there are 4 types of Universities – Central, State, Deemed & State Private. Central & state universities are run by respective governments. Deemed-to-be-Universities is the highest accreditation for private universities with very high standards offering high-level autonomy. It usually has multiple campuses. State Private universities are formed by state universities act by the State legislative assembly. They have limited autonomy.
