Thakur College of Engineering and Technology Admission Experience

APPLICATION PROCESS

Applying to Thakur College of Engineering and Technology (TCET) during the pandemic was a unique experience. The process was detailed and adapted to the unprecedented times:

  1. Online Application Form: I began by filling out an online application form on the TCET website. This required personal details, academic history, and course preferences.
  2. Submission of Documents: I submitted my 10th and 12th-grade mark sheets, a copy of my Aadhar card, and passport-sized photographs. Additionally, recommendation letters from my high school teachers were required.
  3. Entrance Exam Registration: TCET accepts scores from MHT-CET and JEE, so I registered for these exams and included my scores in the application.
  4. Application Fee: The application fee was paid online, confirming my submission.
  5. Acknowledgment and Communication: I received an acknowledgment email from TCET after submitting my application. The admission office was proactive, providing updates and answering queries promptly through email and phone.

CRITERIA OR ELIGIBILITY OF THE COURSE

To be eligible for TCET’s engineering courses, several criteria had to be met:

  1. Academic Requirements: Applicants needed a minimum of 50% in their 12th grade, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects.
  2. Standardized Tests: A valid score in MHT-CET or JEE Main was mandatory. The cut-off scores were clearly specified on the college website.
  3. Additional Criteria: Extracurricular achievements and good moral character, as evidenced by recommendation letters, were also considered.

I met these requirements with my strong academic records and a competitive score in the MHT-CET.

REASONS FOR CHOOSING TCET

Several factors influenced my decision to choose Thakur College of Engineering and Technology:

  1. Reputation and Accreditation: TCET is well-known for its excellent academic programs and is accredited by AICTE.
  2. Experienced Faculty: The college boasts a faculty with significant industry and academic experience.
  3. Course Offerings: TCET offers a diverse range of engineering courses and specializations.
  4. Location: Located in Mumbai, the college’s proximity to home and the vibrant city life were ideal for me.
  5. Campus Facilities: The state-of-the-art labs, libraries, and other facilities promised a conducive learning environment.
  6. Growth Opportunities: TCET’s focus on holistic development, including various technical and cultural events, assured me of ample opportunities for personal and professional growth.
  7. Emerging Field of AI & ML: One of the decisive factors was TCET offering a specialized course in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, an emerging field that is available in very few colleges. This specialization aligned perfectly with my career aspirations and interests.

ADMISSION EXAMINATION EXPERIENCE

My admission to TCET involved taking the MHT-CET exam. Here’s an overview of my experience:

  1. Exam Format: The MHT-CET exam consisted of multiple-choice questions in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The lack of negative marking allowed for a confident approach to answering questions.
  2. Preparation: I prepared through coaching classes, online resources, and practice tests. Regular revision and mock exams were crucial.
  3. Exam Day: The exam was well-organized, and I managed my time effectively.

ADMISSION INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE

Due to the pandemic, TCET did not conduct personal interviews, streamlining the admission process.

THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE

The admission process during the pandemic was delayed by about half a year, and the exams and admissions were pushed back significantly. Despite these delays, the process was smooth and well-coordinated. The shortlisting was based on entrance exam scores and academic performance, with seat allocation and results announced about two weeks after the submission deadline.

Reflecting on the experience, managing the documentation and ensuring timely submission were challenging, but the clear communication from TCET’s admission office made it manageable. A memorable moment was receiving the acceptance email, marking the start of an exciting journey at Thakur College of Engineering and Technology, particularly in the promising field of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
