My Journey from Dhanbad to Engineering Aspirations

Hello, I am a middle-class boy from Dhanbad, Jharkhand. I studied at DAV Public School, Kusunda, Dhanbad, and have recently navigated through some of the most competitive exams in India, including the CBSE Class 10 and 12 board exams, JEE Main and Advanced, CUET, and WBJEE. Here, I share my journey, experiences, and insights to help future aspirants.

Preparation Journey

CBSE Class 10 Board Exams:

My preparation for the Class 10 board exams began earnestly in the 9th grade. Key resources included NCERT textbooks, and reference books like RD Sharma for Mathematics, and Lakhmir Singh & Manjit Kaur for Science. My strategy was to:

  • Understand the Basics: I ensured a solid understanding of fundamental concepts.
  • Regular Revision: Weekly revisions helped retain important information.
  • Practice Papers: Solving past year papers and sample papers was crucial for time management and familiarizing myself with the exam pattern.

CBSE Class 12 Board Exams:

For the Class 12 board exams, I followed a more structured approach:

  • NCERT Books: Primary source of study material, especially for subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
  • Coaching Classes: I joined a local coaching institute for additional guidance and doubt clearance.
  • Self-study: Dedicated 4-5 hours daily for self-study, focusing on problem-solving and concept clarity.
  • Mock Tests: Regular mock tests helped in assessing my preparation level and time management.

For CUET and WBJEE exams, the preparation strategy overlapped significantly with JEE preparation. However:

  • CUET: Focused on the syllabus specific to the course I intended to pursue, ensuring thorough preparation of general aptitude and subject-specific knowledge.
  • WBJEE: Paid extra attention to the unique aspects of the WBJEE syllabus and solved specific WBJEE mock tests.

Exam Day Experiences

CBSE Board Exams:

On the day of the board exams, I faced the usual anxiety but stayed calm by reaching the exam centre early and revising key formulas and points. Time management was crucial, and I managed to complete all the papers with a few minutes to spare for revision.

CUET and WBJEE:

Both exams were relatively less stressful compared to JEE. The familiarity with the exam patterns and ample practice helped in smoothly navigate through these tests. Minor challenges like tricky questions in CUET were handled by logical reasoning and educated guesses.

Results and Insights:

Although I did not clear Cuet and WBJEE, appearing for these exams provided valuable experience and insights into competitive exam preparation and execution. My results were a testament to my hard work:

  • Class 10: Secured a CGPA of 9.8.
  • Class 12: Scored 92% with top marks in Mathematics.
