Recently, our team at HCL undertook a significant project to move our Oracle Database to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This process took a total of four weeks for the migration and an additional month for testing.

Before we started, we did thorough prechecks and documentation. We checked both the database and application sides and listed all firewall configurations since the IP addresses for the database and applications would change. We also had to update configurations and fix job failures. Creating the Master and Work repositories was particularly challenging. We faced many problems, including Java upgrade and version compatibility issues, but with persistence, we completed the OCI migration.

After the migration, we spent a month testing everything. We updated the database configurations and tns. ora files for all applications. We carefully monitored job statuses and file transfers, ensuring everything ran smoothly and fixing any issues that arose.

In the end, our OCI project was a success. Despite the challenges, such as creating repositories and dealing with Java upgrades, we learned valuable lessons. Planning thoroughly and being flexible in solving unexpected problems were key to our success. This migration has greatly improved our system’s performance and reliability.
