Introduction

College is the place where one can explore and experiment to their heart’s content, the clubs offer, help to channel your energy and creativity and you get to work with some of the most talented people in different fields. One such club is GDSC also known as Google Developer Student Clubs, it’s a dynamic club providing a plethora of knowledge and hands-on experience covering domains like cyber security, development, google technologies, etc. Today I will share my experience about one of its such activities.

Google Cloud Cohort’23

This started in October and was one of the first “tech” things I did as a first year. We had to register by creating a Google developer profile and fill one detailed form with accurate details. It is a cohort of students coming together to learn a topic, and in this case, it was about the cloud and its different applications. There are videos and labs that you have to complete module by module after which you earn badges which are displayed on your developer profile. Upon registration, you get 9 credits and you get to use the actual Google interface and the cloud platform that real developers use, for free for that specific period. It is pretty cool, although initially it might seem intimidating but with a little patience and help from seniors and colleagues, you will get the hang of it in no time. What I especially liked about this was it was very current, I got to learn the basics of AI-ML in this course as well, its integration with the cloud, etc. It’s a great starting point to explore a technology.

Rewards

Depending on the number of students who completed the entire course from your college, you get free goodies of course this is a small thing as compared to the amount of knowledge you gain, and the practical experience you get from the virtual labs, the goodies still act as a nice motivation when things get complicated. Tell me you wouldn’t want Google merch which in our case was a bottle, bag, and t-shirt since our entire cohort completed it, finished with a neat felicitation ceremony in distributing the same by GDSC Cummins.

There are also various competitions that are organized under this club, which provide such a nice experience and in depth knowledge of about various technologies and all its aspects. This club is a celebration of technology and its dynamism so each event, every competition is just so fun and wholesome both in knowledge and experience.

Conclusion

A lot of people are not aware of these clubs or their activities, you not only miss out on these exciting opportunities but also miss out on networking with peers and seniors, who have gotten good with what they do. GDSC keeps on having these cohorts about different things maybe on android development, AI-ML, etc. just keep your eyes open and abord this knowledge train.
