BTech Admission

The admissions to all the B.Tech programmes offered by this University is done through AEEE and JEE Main. 70% of the seats are reserved for AEEE category, and 30% seats are allotted using their JEE Main (BE/BTech) CRL rank. There are no socio-economic reservation system similar to private deemed universities like BITS Pilani, Manipal & VIT. Admission for foreign nationals, NRI and PIO students is through SAT. The eligible candidates are invited for seat allotment where seats is allotted based on their ranks with choice order of campus and branch. One candidate can apply with both AEEE & JEE main, highest possible choice in both category is considered and other one is discarded.

AEEE Format & Pattern

Similar to the JEE-Main, the test syllabus includes complete high school (class 11 & 12) topics from mathematics, physics, and chemistry, along with a small proportion of English proficiency, Aptitude, and Reasoning. There are 40 questions from Mathematics, 30 each from Physics and Chemistry, and 5 each from English and Aptitude. The syllabus, preparation, weightage, and pattern of the examination are the same as that of JEE-Main.

Preparation Strategies

There is no separate preparation strategy for this entrance. Anyone preparing for JEE main, follow the institute’s material. Revise all concepts before exams. Try to score well in first phase itself to avoid hussle later. Solve previous year JEE-Main papers, NCERT Exemplar & textbook problems. These are only repeated in all question papers in both shifts. Don’t go with JEE Advanced books/materials.

Students without JEE-Main practice will feel this exam difficult. Never worry, prepare and revise class 11 syllabus during class 12 as it weights 50% in AEEE aswell all Engineering Entrances in India. Follow NCERT Exemplar & JEE-Main previous Question papers.

For English Proficiency & Aptitude, follow previous year CUET-UG, BITSAT exam papers. It is also important. Don’t skip it.

Topic Focus & Preparation Tips

Topics to focus is all same as JEE main. Concentrate more on Maths as it has highest weightage.

Exam is bit easier than JEE Main. But you have to score higher marks than JEE Main to get decent rank. So, Unlike JEE Main, Here you can’t skip some portions/subjects. Don’t skip any topic as there will be 1 Question from each topic/chapter in syllabus.

Don’t ever attempt a wrong answer. This is common advise found everywhere and still many students make this mistake. Here correct answers are awarded +3 and wrong answers -1. Here wrong answers are penalised more than JEE main. So try to always keep 0 wrong answers. Wild guessing is biggest mistake here.

All are single–correct-answer type. No numerical question type. So, Try for back-substitutions, cross checking options tricks if anything works. But this have less chances.

Time management is important. It will has more questions/time than JEE main, but each questions are bit less lenghtier. Start with Chemistry for time saving.

Invest some time on Aptitude & English. It will also be useful in other exams aswell your placements, GRE in future. Follow good books. Follow BITSAT & CUET-UG previous year papers.

Admission & Seat Allotment

After both shifts of exams, JEE-Main & CBSE board are over and results are out, seat allotment process starts. One should give choice order of campus/branch/fee slab. If your chances of getting desired branches in old NITs, top IIITs are less, apply for this for safety. Fee is only constraint in private deemed university and banks are ready to give loan if you get into BITS Pilani or Manipal, VIT, Amrita, Thapar, etc.

Coming to seat choice filling, please fill branch purely based on your interests & strength. Don’t look at salary package as market can vary anytime. Last decade was full of trend for CSE, but now Software & IT market is in huge recession & lay-offs which resulted in poor placements even in top NITs. On the other hand Semi-conductor is gonna boom and have give lots of opportunities for Electronics grads (ECE, EEE, VLSI). Mechanical also saw good placement from 2023 onwards.

Anyways, generally higher closing ranks & competitive branch is CSE followed by CS-AI, AI-DS, CyS, ECE, CCE,. Next is EEE, Mech. Civil & Chem are last options. Coming to campus, oldest campus Coimbatore is preferred first followed by Bengaluru & Amritapuri (Kollam). Chennai & Amaravati are younger ones and last preferred. But, syllabus, curriculum, Placements is same across all campuses. Personally, many feel branches are more important than campus. Also keep slab in mind. Order similar branches slab wise as they don’t have much difference in placement & higher education opportunities.

Apply with both JEE main & AEEE to maximise your chance of getting preffered seat. Having JEE Main rank below 1Lakh will fetch a seat in any branch in any campus. In previous year, CSE @ CBE campus closed at 96.5 percentile and other 2 old campuses at 95.5 percentile (JEE Main) for highest fee slab. With 92 percentile and higher, one can get any 5 campus circuit or mech branches.

Amrita Btech – councilling choice order for 2024.

The above is seat allotment choice order for branches & campus based on placement opportunities and campus faculty/dept establishment for 2024. Again, this is just sample and each individual can have personal choices. Within 2-3 years, you can prefer new campuses also equally and give importance to branches alone. As of now since Nagercoil is new and Amaravati isn’t well established the above order. Also market may change and branch order may change.

All the best for all your Exams & have a great career ahead.

Piece of advise for class 12 folks:

In the great Bhagawad Gita, Krishna says to Arjuna: “As a human being, you cannot be inactive. Act as you need to. Do not worry about the outcome”. Lord asked Arjuna concentrate on action and not worry about Results as that is beyong control of human beings. Similarly, concentrate on your Board exams, Entrances, Practical exams, etc. Don’t worry about college, admissions now, which will disturb you. You have much time left. Think about college only after JEE-Adv (May). Now, If you have 95ptle+ in Jan JEE main session, you are good, just spend some penny and apply for BITSAT, Manipal, Amrita, Thapar, VIT (top pvt Universities in India.) other than JEE & your state councilling for safety and multiple-options.
