What are Ribosomes?Ribosomes were first observed by George Palade (1953) under the electron microscope. It is a kind of complex molecular machine that produce proteins from amino acids during a process of protein synthesis also called translation. Ribosome translates genetic information stored in messenger RNA into proteins. The process occur in three stages: initiation, elongation and termination. Within ribosomes, ribosomal RNA (rRNA) catalyzes the peptidyl transferase reaction, to form peptide bonds between amino acids, enabling them to form proteins.
