One of the most consistent private universities, which never fails to catch a place in the NIRF rankings, goes by the name Vellore Institute of Technology. Consisting of 4 campuses, Vellore (the main campus, oldest and indigenous), Chennai (the next oldest), Bhopal and Andhra Pradesh (the recent ones). It doesn’t take anyone by surprise with the quality it has produced, yet it is my humble honour to dwell upon the achievements.

That requires a breather for such achievements, what fascinates a young energetic student to pursue a degree inside the university are the environment, people from different parts of the world, cultural and tech fests, eclectic course structures and enigmatic sports events, and most importantly and an unnoticed factor is that FREEDOM. By freedom, I mean the students here are given an opportunity to select a timetable according to their own availability, providing a chance to choose faculties of respective subjects and course slots. So clearly you may be free in the morning and just attend classes in the evening or you may choose every course completely in the morning and rest yourself in the evening.

Something that sets us apart

One peculiar factor that sets apart this university is it doesn’t have confined timings to a certain extent, the classes start at 8 in the morning and can even go up to 7.20 in the evening. Consider yourself being a hosteller, you can choose a lab course at 2 pm (ends at 3.40) rest yourself until 5.30 pm, and head over to the next lab (ends at 7.20).

The other most important information is that, the gradings. The gradings in the grades subjects are graded relatively according to your class strength, mean, and standard deviation. The laboratory courses are graded Absolutely graded.

Another One

Each course handles about minimum of 35 – 70 students and this is arbitrary and varies according to the engagement of students to that respective course. Here is another factor, before the end of a semester we are given a wishlist ( resides in student portal) of the subsequent semesters, where in we are asked to fill the interested subjects ,out of Box full of course details with pedantic syllabus sheets, shaping up your courses for subsequent semester.

Igniting the fire,

Usually the first year goes by resurfacing your 12th grade subjects for setting up a foundation for your subsequent years of eduaction. From the start of 2nd year, you are engaged to foressing and shaping your interests, by involving projects and assignments to every course you take. Some eye-catching projects are then chosen, presented in fests, awarded and then funded to take it to next level. Also, some scintillating young ones are given rewards based on their efforts in thier academic region.

Reported by other universities students,placements usually start in the summer breaks for them. Here, we are trained to acquire quantative reasoning abilities right from the first semester, followed by traditonal coding /placement juggernaut, DSA training which starts in the 3rd semester (2nd year).

This university is bound with more than 50 officially registered clubs and countless unofficial clubs. So the networking factor is something off-charts. Moreover, you are destined to be part of a club/community/student chapter, as a part of your curriculum (1-2 credits), so you offered a chance to choose your favorite club and work for it for a year, enriching your experience and memories.

You definitely will get lucky to serve the club and you are graded on your performance, hence it can be of a great value to you CV. If you are retained by the club after the 1 year compulsory service you could very well be nominated for your department head and sooner enough you could become president if the club is more than satisfied with your performance.

Cultural and Tech Fests

Two of the enigmatic monsters, for which students await every year,

VIBRANCE – cultural fest – ( around early March)

TECHNOVIT – tech fest – (arround september-october)

Surrounded by tons of pre- and post-shows, of almost every type of events the world has unseen. Around the months of september/October and March, the show stealers become talk of the town inviting celebrities and global achievers ( for students to idiolise and lionize). Owing to pandemic regulations and online education, these 2 monsters had to be shelved for 3 years, before resurging in 2023. Starting with pleasant activities and events , to end up giving a banger of pro shows( music events), making the university and its young ones unstoppable. Demand for these shows is so appreciable that it gets sold out within minutes.

Vibrane occurs for 4 days (March 6-9 as fo 2024), TechnoVIT occurs for 3-4 days (yet to feature).

Vibrance is more foccused on cultural activities and involves performances of people form every state. TechnoVIT focusses on technological aspects providing 24 hour,48 hour hackathons and subsequent rewards and funding to the those projects.

Placements and internships, the end game

Placements start in the final year, while internship recuritments starts around the 5th and 6th semester.

About 904 companies visit and recruit individuals based on their coding skills,projects and CGPA. University assures 100% placements, and it is definitely competive. You need give some solid projects to stand out of the crowd and participate in hackathons regularly (just like brushing everyday). You need to make sure your screen time be more on emails consistently rather than your socials during placements. Such huge is the companies list and their interview process call-for.
